1. The price of a debt

The marriage contract wasn't written in ink; it was signed in her father's ruin.

Zoya didn't walk toward the mandap as a woman in love, she walked as the price of her family's survival. Every heavy step in her blood-red lehenga was a surrender to a debt she never owed.

This is zoya mehra she 22 years old

As she reached him, Reyansh didn't look like a groom. He looked like a conqueror who had just claimed a territory and she was the ground he was stepping on.

The ritual flames danced between them, but there was no warmth to be found. The priest chanted the mantras.

"Put it on her."The priest handed the mangalsutra to him.

As Reyansh leaned forward to fasten the sacred necklace around her throat, his knuckles brushed her skin. It wasn't a soft touch. It was firm and unmistakable.

Zoya's skin burned where he touched her. She instinctively stiffened, her breath catching in her throat. It was a reminder of the choice she had never been given.

The priest nodded toward the bowl of deep-red vermilion.

Reyansh dipped his fingers into the powder and gathered a generous amount. There was no gentleness in his movements-only cold, deliberate certainty.

This is Reyansh he is 28

He leaned toward Zoya and pressed the vermilion into the parting of her hair, marking her as his wife in front of everyone. Zoya closed her eyes tightly. She wasn't afraid of the vermilion. She was afraid of what it represented.

Around them, smiles and blessings filled the air, as though this were the beginning of a beautiful marriage. But Zoya knew the truth. It was another reminder of the choice she had never been given.

The priest smiled and raised his hands in blessing. "May you both be blessed with a lifetime of happiness and togetherness."

He looked at Reyansh and Zoya before continuing. "From this moment onward, you are husband and wife."

Her eyes remained fixed on the sacred flames, but the tears she had been holding back finally slipped down her cheeks.

She had just become a wife. Not by choice. But by a debt that was never hers. But her family didn't told her that she was getting because they had sold her to Reyansh

The wedding was over. The rituals, the blessings, the forced smiles-all of it had finally come to an end.

The car moved silently through the dark streets, carrying Zoya toward the place she would now have to call home.

She sat quietly beside Reyansh, her eyes fixed on the window.

Neither of them spoke.

After a long, silent drive, the car finally came to a stop. Zoya slowly looked up.

The Rathore mansion stood before her. Huge. Silent. Unwelcoming. She swallowed hard. This was her new home now.

The car door opened. Reyansh stepped out first. Zoya slowly followed, gathering her heavy lehenga in her trembling hands.

The moment she stepped outside, the massive doors of the mansion opened.

A group of family members stood waiting for them, dressed in their finest clothes, smiles lighting up their faces.

Reyansh's mother stepped forward with a traditional welcome thali. "Welcome home, Zoya."

The words made her heart sink."Home".

She looked at the towering mansion before her. She had no idea how a place this beautiful could feel so frightening.

Beside her, Reyansh remained silent.

He didn't look at her. He simply walked inside. And Zoya had no choice but to follow.

Reyansh pushed open the heavy mahogany doors of his primary suite and stepped inside. The weight of his presence instantly transformed the large, luxurious room into a gilded cage.

He didn't look back to see if she was following; he knew she had nowhere else to go.

Zoya stumbled inside, the heavy gold of her jewellery clinking in the silence. As soon as the door shut behind them, the silence became deafening.

She swallowed hard, her knuckles turning white as she gripped her lehenga."Why?"

The word escaped before she could stop it. "Why me, Reyansh? Why did you actually marry me?"

Reyansh turned, a cruel, empty smile dancing on his lips. He didn't even bother to approach her. "You still think this was about wanting you?"

He scoffed, the sound harsh in the quiet room. "Don't flatter yourself, Zoya. I didn't marry you because I wanted you. I married you because your father couldn't pay his debts, and he decided to sell you like a piece of property to save himself."

Reyansh leaned toward her, closing the distance between them until he was close enough for Zoya to hear the faint rhythm of his breath. His eyes remained cold, unreadable. "I didn't win a wife...I simply acquired an asset."

Zoya flinched as though his words had struck her. Her fingers tightened around the silk of her lehenga, but she couldn't find her voice.

Reyansh remained close, his presence making it difficult for her to breathe normally. Zoya's breath caught.

The words left her feeling smaller than she had ever felt before. She had entered this room as a bride. But to Reyansh, she was nothing more than the price of a debt that wasn't hers.

Reyansh stepped away from her, his expression still cold and unreadable. He turned toward the door, then stopped. Without looking back, he said, "From tonight, you live by my rules."

Zoya's heart sank. He finally glanced over his shoulder.

"And don't misunderstand this marriage, Zoya. You are not my wife." His gaze remained emotionless. "I married you because your father couldn't pay what he owed me."

He paused. "You were never a choice."

His eyes hardened. "You were simply something he gave me in exchange for his debt."

The door closed behind him. Zoya stood frozen in the silence. She had entered the Rathore mansion as a bride. But Reyansh had never intended to treat her like one.
